After another average season in the Bundesliga and being unable to make a mark in Europe, Borussia Dortmund is in the thick of things yet again during this summer transfer window. The German international and Dortmund centre back Mats Hummels is all set to make a move to arch rivals Bayern Munich this season. The defender, arguably the best in Germany and one of the best in international football as of now is set to follow in the footsteps of ex-Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski, who swapped the yellow and black uniform for siti maglie calcio the all-red jersey of arch rivals Bayern Munich. The move is a massive setback for the Dortmund team, already grappling with injury issues and questions being raised about the depth of their squad. The German international’s contract with Dortmund runs out in 2017 but it seems the player has made up his mind. There has been no disclosure of transfer fee yet but sources say it could be anywhere between E30-35 million.

The fans, as expected, did not deal with the news very well. Hummels, the current BVB captain, was booed off by home fans at the Westfalenstadion last week following the news of his move to Bayern. Coach Thomas Tuchel candidly accepted that replacing the outgoing captain would be a tough job. Hummels was somewhat of a backbone for the Dortmund team with his precision tackling, interception and anticipation of the ball. With Hummels gone, Dortmund would be lucky to find a defender of such quality in the transfer market this season. Ironically, Dortmund’s last game of the season is the DFB Pokal final against Bayern Munich, who have already managed to annex the Bundesliga trophy. The move has drawn a lot of ridicule from the Twitterati as well, with some saying that Bayern scouts have the easiest job in the world, of just tracking the Dortmund roster.

On the bright side, Dortmund have completed the signing of talented teenager Ousmane Dembele from French Ligue 1 team Rennes for a reported fee of E18 million. The youngster showed great talent and promise as a blooming youngster at the age of 18 with the Ligue 1 team, making 25 appearances and scoring 12 goals. The forward plays an attacking brand of football and has shown considerable ball control and finishing abilities. The forward boasts to have Europe’s top clubs pitching offers to him but also defended his choice saying that Dortmund approached him first and always stayed in touch. His contract at the Westfalenstadion is up to 2017. While Bayern, Arsenal and Manchester City were vying for this teenager as well, Leicester City have reportedly been the last club to attempt a coup and sign the teenager. Coach Tuchel has said that he and the Dortmund team are supremely excited to have such young and exciting talent in the team and says Dembele’s presence opens up a whole new plethora of attacking tactics for the club. Dortmund is at the end of this season and can only hope to win the DFB Pokal title and head into Europe next season on the back of a second place finish in the League.
